Who's Responsible...?

In yesterday's RedEye, there is an article about living with HIV. The story revolves around Reginald Davis, a 24-year old African-American who tested positive for HIV in October 2006. He claims in the article that he began having sex with men in his teens, and started yearly HIV testing when he was 17. He says he used condoms "most of the time." When he contracted the disease, he was shocked, saying, "In my mind, it just was something that does not happen to me." He said he "felt like the walking dead" when he learned of his diagnosis.

Davis says he knew what HIV was "in theory," that HIV was not taught in sex education in his public high school and he "didn't feel he could talk to anyone, given the stigma against homosexuality in the black community." Precisely, what does "in theory" mean? A theory is a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well-established propositions that are regarded as fact. To say that he knew of HIV "in theory" means, to me, he knew of HIV but regarded it as non-fact, or something that had no basis in his life. As a gay man, this is pure and simple blindness, or, more to the point, escaping actual responsibility for his actions, which led to the HIV infection.

Seems to me that Mr. Davis needs some counselling, as he is placing blame for his HIV status on a multitude of other factors - except himself.

In December of 1991, I went to have my twice-annual HIV test at the local clinic. Due to the holiday season, I had to wait nearly a month for my test results to come back, and on January 19, 1992 - a date burned into my memory - I learned that I had tested positive for HIV. In the time between test and result, I stewed and worried and cried and fretted about what the potential outcome. I had, after all, a 50/50 chance. I resigned myself to the worst possible scenario, and, lo and behold, my fears came to fruition.

I immediately called my family and informed them of the news. My sister cried, but my parents were supportive, asking questions and taking an interest. Since I was already in counselling, I added this new wrinkle.

And, here I am, nearly 16 years later.

I suggest to Mr. Davis to get some professional help. HIV has become a manageable disease; it's no longer a death sentence. Stop blaming the school system (always an easy target), the community, and everyone and everything within pointing distance. Get in front of a mirror and confront the one person who is responsible for your predicament - YOURSELF! No one held a gun to your head during your sexual escapades and forced you to have unprotected sex - at least I hope not! You knew full well what you were doing, and, as an adult, you must own your badge of responsibility. If not, finger pointing is not going to resolve your emotional issues. Buck up, dude. It isn't the end of the world, unless you want it to be.

Over the course of the past twenty years, I have attended the funerals of young men cut down in their prime - handsome, talented, gorgeous men. It was needless and wasteful. My best friend, unable to deal with the stigma of his HIV status, took his life in 1995 - a devastating blow to myself and other friends and family. To this day, I visit his grave twice a year to commiserate. But, I am still here...

Things now are so much different on the medical front than even ten years ago. I suggest Mr. Davis channel his energy into finding ways to improve his life rather than dwelling on who is to blame for his situation. Shifting blame is a HUGE waste of time, and gets a person no where, especially when the blame is inevitably sitting in one's own lap. Become a survivor - not a victim.

On July 14, 2005, Jeanette Sliwinski, a hormone enraged cunt, allegedly got into a fight with her mother, and decided to kill herself. Instead, the stupid bitch killed three others when she plowed her car into a crowded area of Skokie, Illinois, thereby ending three lives and impacting the lives of friends and family far and wide.

Yesterday, she was found guilty but mentally insane on reckless homicide - another way of saying that murder is okay if you're a spoiled rich white girl from a Jewish suburb. Her sentence was handed down as 8 years for which she will only have to serve four years in prison if she stays out of trouble as she has already done for the past two years while awaiting trial. So, basically, this shitass moron who used an insanity defense to justify her murdering three young, talented men, will be walking out of her jail cell in about a year and a half, if all goes well.

More proof that our justice system is severely flawed. The judge in this case, Cook County Circuit Judge Garritt Howard should be run out of town on a rail for presiding over this farce. He should be removed from the bench for allowing this obviously sane, competent drama queen a moment in the spotlight, which is probably what she was seeking in the first place. Obviously, Justice Howard is no longer fit to serve in a judicial capacity and should probably submit to a sanity test as well. When the voters return to the polls, I hope they see fit to oust this glory seeking quack from the bench before he fouls up another courtroom.

Sliwinski cried at her sentencing and said, "There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about the grief and pain I have caused," while occasionally glancing in the direction of her victims' families. "I have never meant to hurt anybody. I'm sorry."

A little too late for that, eh, sister? And I think those do not sound like the words of someone who has been deemed mentally ill. Sounds like a competent person to me. Her words say that she was fully aware of her actions and knew EXACTLY what she was doing, and now, "HA HA to all the rest of you, I get an easy pass to prison." I wonder if she thinks once she gets out, that if she murders again, and it will be okay because she's insane... She can become a serial killer and it will all be justified because she is not aware of what she is doing. Kinda like a dog when it humps your leg...

She got out of punishment, and her actions and words smack of someone who thumbed her nose at the justice system and is laughing all the way home. Seems to me her parents should also pay a penalty for raising this piece of spoiled white trash. Jeanette Sliwinski and the people that raised her should all be locked up behind bars with no chance of ever seeing the light of day.

Stinking bitch.

Jesse Watch

I am fascinated by the antics of Jesse Jackson. He appears in public to be some sort of moral pillar, a crusading everyman, yet, he seems to pick his causes when the time and media suit him.

Just a month or so ago, he was protesting the violence in the black neighborhoods of Chicago - the guns, the gangs, the shootings, etc. He staged a press conference to decry the horrors of that area, saying he wanted it stopped.

Then he disappeared...

Now, as of last night, his new cause is the shitty way Wall Street is treating homeowners. WHAT? Yes, Jesse says that since Wall Street sets "the sub-prime and sub-prime lending fees" that many indigent homeowners are being forced out of their homes and into the streets while the fat cats on Wall Street are taking these properties. Ironically, the gentleman reporting the story last night on Fox News Chicago was African-American and he stated that Jackson doesn't know what he's talking about. Wall Street doesn't set the interest rates or sell loans for homes. That's banks and financial institutions. When he brought this up, Jackson simply iterated his decision to march on Wall Street in the coming days and also to march on La Salle Street in Chicago where the Board of Trade is located.

Seems to me Jesse needs a new cause to keep his ugly mug in front of a camera, to make it look to the black public that he is doing something for them. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jesse Jackson never met a camera or media outlet that he didn't like.

I would like to know how much money he makes in a year, and how much he donates to these causes he champions every third week. Does he donate money to the homeless? Does he give to these neighborhoods that he supposedly wants to protect? Does he help build shelter for the needy? Does he give food to the hungry? Does he give a single penny to any cause at all? I'm sure he funnels money back into his Rainbow/Push foundation, but I think that's called money laundering, isn't it?

I sincerely doubt Jesse gives two shits about anyone in a poor neighborhood while he lives in his McMansion, but when a news camera is in the immediate vicinity, you can rest assured that Mighty Jesse will have some reason to be filmed for television.

If you truly want to help these people, Jesse, roll up your sleeves and get in the dirt with them. Bankroll something instead of showing up for a self-serving press conference and then disappearing when the on-air light goes dim. Stop marching and going home when the march is over, or moving on to the next news outlet. Give some of your "hard earned" money. Open your church to these victims. It makes me sick that you get everyone in a lather, then, when the camera stops rolling, you pack up and vanish into the night. You really accomplish nothing with your blowhard tactics and non-adherence to your own words.

My father said once that if Jesse Jackson were to be assassinated, he would instantly be come a martyr in the black community. I believe that there are many African-Americans with at least a shred of dignity that would not feel this way. They see Jackson for what he is: a self-serving, self-aggrandizing, do-nothing, straw man.

I eagerly await Jesse's next cause...

Suddenly, President Bush is waving an admonishing finger at the major US airline carriers, telling them they better straighten up and fly right (pun intended), especially since the Thanksgiving holiday is near, and a crowd of over 3 million is expected to pass through the gates of O'Hare Airport in Chicago alone during the week.

Funny.

I seem to recall his adamant stance during 9/11, when the airlines were grounded by him, and losing billions in revenue on a daily basis, with pilots and flight crew out of jobs for nearly a month while he was allowed to junket all over the country in Air Force One. When the airline flight ban was lifted, the carriers had no choice but to furlough employees and restructure financially.

When the airlines asked Dickhead Bush for a hand, a federal bailout, he said NO. The government shouldn't become involved in that mess - the one he created. And so, many employees were out of jobs and drawing unemployment or seeking other ways of staying afloat financially. Bush didn't care, since he has his own personal airplane to use (Air Force One), and I am willing to bet dollars to donuts he and the Bush family own a fleet of private jets to use at their whims.

To me, this makes no sense.

I believe the reason he is suddenly concerned about air travel is that it takes away from American's focusing on the Iraq debacle and the debate going on in Congress and the House for more blood money for his oil war. I find it ironic that he wants billions to continue funding this madness, to perpetuate the "good" his bloodwar is doing in liberating the Iraqi people, while waving a Jewish Mother finger at our domestic airline carriers, as if they have been naughty, while fares continue to escalate and service decreases across the board at all the airlines. The airlines say the reason for increases is because of fuel prices, and I don't doubt that one bit. Since Bush took office in 2000, oil prices per barrel have gone from $22 to a whopping $92! And who is making all this extra revenue?

Get this fucker out of office, people! And keep Republicans out! They have no business in our government, except to further their own personal agendas.

I also read a startling statistic recently, stating that, during the Reagan administration, drug use was at an all-time high (no pun intended). Then, a decrease in drug use across the nation, after Daddy Bush (another fucked up asshole) left office. Now, however, drug use is on the rise again, and has been since Baby Bush took office. A correlation? I think so...

If you are a registered voter, take off the rose colored glasses - NO politician truly cares about us as a country and a people. They are in this for themselves, the prestige and the power that comes along with being in a position of government. But to continue this rotten lie of a war in Iraq, and to continue funding it, while the shithead of a president of our country is making billions of dollars a week pumping oil from this wartorn land, is a shame we all must bear. To continue to give him even the slightest penny is to give him too much. Bush needs to be shut down, his oil war stopped, and he and his worthless alcoholic, drug abusing family run out of this country for being liars, traitors and, worst of all, for stomping on the rights of the American people.

To Bare or Not to Bare...

In the Adams Report, printed in Gay Chicago Magazine dated November 8, 2007, there is a controversy regarding bareback versus condoms. According to the article, the David Awards were handed out in Berlin back in October, and several nominees and recipients were from bareback gay porn films, with the Best U.S. Studio award going to Treasure Island Media. But the real story began when Chi Chi LaRue went onstage to receive her/its award for Best U.S. Director and let it be known that she/it was duped into attending an "event glorifying bareback." Yet, she/it took her/its trophy, only to return it later "in protest." The gentleman who accepted the award for Treasure Island answered with a resounding "Fuck you, Ms. LaRue!"

Kudos, that.

Since the ceremony, LaRue and others have denounced the David Awards for tying their awards to advertising support and for honoring studios that produce bareback films. Keith Webb of Titan Media claims he had every intention of denouncing the awards while accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of Bruce Cam, but "they did not even have the decency to allow me onstage to voice our opinions and to politely refuse to accept the award..." He goes on: "In my opinion, the entire event was a setup meant to showcase and promote bareback films and was the most biased and poorly produced awards show I have ever attended. The event was an embarrassment to the entire gay adult industry and I am sad to say we were even represented."

Webb claims that the list of nominees had not been circulated. I wonder how he knew what awards his company was up for. "It appears that this year's list of nominees were kept from us and other nominated studios in an apparent attempt to conceal the amount of bareback films and studios being nominated," he goes on. "Had we been informed of the fact that the vast majority of nominees were bareback we would not have supported or attended the event."

Sam Dixon, VP of Tipo Sesso and 1 Distribution (producers of both condomized and bareback films) noted that the nominees WERE printed in the magazine so "no one can say they didn't know bareback was included in the nominations."

He goes on: "I still have yet to wrap my head around the logic of these companies who find it all right to sell pre-condom classic films and simultaneously denounce bareback companies. Last I checked, we were all in business to do business, not have a personal soapbox."

Chi Chi LaRue has been perhaps the most vocal detractor of bareback films. Looking at the facts, I wonder who pockets the cash made from the re-release of "pre-condom classics" from such studios as Falcon and Jocks. Certainly not the actors. Not their families or estates. I guarantee LaRue gets the cash from the sale of each unit. After all, these films were made when the term bareback still meant riding your horse without a saddle. And weren't several of LaRue's early films bareback? Isn't that a strange dichotomy?

LaRue claims to be concerned about the health and welfare of her/its models/actors. I find this highly doubtful, since the shelf life of her/its Falcon boys is about four to eight movies and then forced obscurity, unless, as one model has written, you continue to "blow the fat pig under her dress." And if she/it is so motherly about her performers, and cares so, so deeply, why does she/it have them work as escorts for as long as the movies are selling (and she/it takes 90% of their trick earnings)? If she/it is so worried about the safety and well-being of her "boys," why is Joey Stefano dead? In viewing many bareback films over the course of the past few years, I have yet to see one that didn't come with a clear and precise disclaimer about the content, and the actor/model's knowledge of what he is performing.

Ironically, LaRue has taken two performers from extremely popular bareback films and placed them in her own - Brent Corrigan and Brent Everett, both of whom got their starts in bareback films.
