Where Are You, Jesse?

On Halloween night, 38 year old Leticia Barrera was gunned down in front of her own house, while returning from trick-or-treating with her children, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago. The police say a stray bullet struck Barrera as she and her children stood outside their home. The bullet is all edged to be from gang activity.

This is such a sad story, for everyone involved, especially the young Barrera's children. It's also disgusting that someone lives in a neighborhood populated by guns, gangs and violence.

But, where is Jesse Jackson?

Surely, as the self-appointed "outraged" minister that he is, shouldn't he be in front of a camera right now, decrying the violence and guns that kill innocent people? Shouldn't he be surrounded by a throng of righteously outraged and horrified parishioner's/followers as they "amen" his every word? Isn't Jesse shocked that an innocent life has been taken due to the gangs and their easy access to weapons?

Just this past summer, Jackson was protesting a gun dealer, and was arrested.

Where is he now? Where is the Reverend? He has yet to say a single word.

And I wonder why.

Is it because that neighborhood is not part of his "parish?"

I rather think it's because Leticia Barrera was not black. Since she was not African-American, Jesse didn't have to get outraged.

Racism comes in many colors, Mister Jackson.

Including black.
